“As without, so within.” I’m not sure who coined that phrase, but it sure fits as one of the key ingredients in the vast array of home showing solutions. The original meaning likely has to do with our psychological makeup, but in the context of real estate, I see it as great curb appeal.
Unfortunately, we humans still judge external appearances without giving inner beauty a chance. We bathe and shower not only to feel good, but also to look good. Why not give your house the same TLC? You should allow your house to feel confident about it’s outside appearance when it’s feeling a little nervous about losing you.
Regardless of how pretty your brand new cupboards are, or the beautiful marble counter tops, if no one gets inside, you have no witness, and thus no sale. By paying special attention to the outside by doing some simple sweeping, buying flowers, and some decent landscaping you’re good to go, and so is your house.
Now that you’ve taken great care of your surrounding exterior, i.e, stepped out of the shower, it’s time to step up to the front door, i.e., your bathroom mirror. Potential buyers inspect the front door as closely as a teenager peers into their face for even the tiniest of pimples.
The teenager will hopefully grow out of this narcissism and may just need some space, but if your house is already grown up, i.e., needs some touch paint, you should give it your undivided attention; because it has no mirror.
You may have thought you were all set and took care of everything, but then you come to the realization that you are more than just a body. You are an infinite being who’s depths are unknown, and you’ve been shoving life experiences and emotions into the corner of your psyche.
The problem is, you cannot do this with the corners of your rooms, because potential home buyers will avoid the space like a peaceful healer avoids college frat parties.
Instead of having a plant or a bookshelf in a cramped corner, you may want to consider creating a nice reading space with something like a comfy chair.
It’s truly the little things that can open (you) and your house up to the most serendipitous of opportunities.
